The word ‘Umrah is derived from an Arabic word named I‘timaar which means a visit. However, ‘Umrah in Islamic terminology, means paying a visit to Ka’bah, performing Tawaaf (circumambulation) around it, walking between Safaa and Marwah seven times. A performer of ‘Umrah puts off his Ihraam by having his hair shaved or cut. ‘Umrah can be performed along with Hajj and in other days as well.
Ramadan is a time to practice self-restraint, a time to re-focus one’s self on the worship of Allah. Performing Umrah or visiting the holy place of Mecca and Medina during the holy month of ramadan is an awesome experience. Muslims are called upon by Allah to use this month to re-evaluate their lives and refocus attention on Allah in light of Islamic guidance.
